Kanbawza Win (a university student who survived July 7, 1962 Massacre in Burma) tells how it started, how Myanmar Military Government gunned down innocent University students, civilians, and how the killing was covered up.
Excerpt from the 50th Anniversary Message:
Today 7th July is the 50th anniversary of the Student massacre of the Rangoon University students where more than 173 students were killed by the first military government of Burma.
The various military administrations of Burma have targeted the institute of higher learning as their main enemy because only by snuffing out the young students who will become the potential leaders of the country, they will be able to rule the country forever.
Even now, it is manipulating the country by starting the sectarian strife in Arakan, in Burma using the policy of “Let the minority fights the minority” and instigated the hatred between the Muslims and the Buddhists to prove to the world that Burma still needs a strong army.
We like to appeal to the international community to help us to get rid of this quasi military administration and the Burmese army which is like a cancer not only to Burma but also to Southeast Asia and to the world.
