Background Information

On 27 May 1990, people of Burma voted for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi as their leader. Instead of honouring the election result, junta put Daw Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest and suppressing on the dissidents intensified.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi once said that: “The results of these elections will remain valid until such time as the Members of Parliament elected in 1990 by the people have had a chance to get together and decide what the next step is going to be. The world has to make certain that the outcome of these elections is honoured”.

Again, junta is planning to hold the sham election in 2010. The essence of planning to hold election in 2010 is “to nullify 1990 election results, to legitimise military rule in Burma and to exclude Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and political activists in the Burma political process”.

There is no room for genuine democratic change in Burma due to junta’s planned 2010 election so that all the justice loving countries should stand together with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi led legitimate leaders.

Let’s work together to show our solidarity with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi led legitimate leaders of Burma.

Let’s BOYCOTT junta planned sham election, let’s REJECT junta’s planned sham 2010 election and its results.

Thank you very much.

Yours faithfully,
