Burmese Government’s Weather Forecast

POSSIBILITY OF RAIN, STRONG WINDS, AND BIG WAVESNaypyidaw April 29

According to observations made at 6 pm Burma Standard Time, Cyclone Nargis developing in the central western part of Bengal Bay will not noticeably become stronger, and will slowly move to the north; its center is 585 miles to the west-northwest of Ko Ko Island Town. In the next 24 hours, it is estimated that this strong cyclone is not going to become stronger; but slowly move to the northeast.

Because of the acceleration of the storm, starting from this afternoon for the next 48 hours, there will be widespread sudden rainfall in Arakan State, Mon State, Karen State, Irrawaddy Division, Rangoon Division, Pegu Division, and Tenasserim Division. Along Burma’s coastline and offshore seas there can sometimes be strong winds, rain and big waves.

During the strong wind and rains, winds above the sea and land will blow 40 to 45 mph, according to the news report from Directorate of Weather and Meteorology.
