BURMESE WAY TO DISCIPLINED DEMOCRACY
How Military Officers live their lives in Burma
…
By Ethan Bourne
The bulldog known as Senior General Than Shwe was thought to be a puppet. Recent years and political developments have proved that school of thought wrong. To show he is in power and he is a strongman, he purged the generals who he believed would threaten his power. He is now known to rule in tantrum. Since he purged the Office of Military Intelligence and its branches, the colonels in the newly formed intelligence bureau called Military Affairs Security Agency are known to be living in fear because they do not know when they will be gone. Word is these colonels do not know who to brown-nose to be able to stay put at their current positions. A colonel working at MASA in Naypyidaw obviously lives every moment of his in fear but he was spotted in a karaoke bar at the corner of Mingladon Airport Road and Kyauk Yay Dwin Street. He was seen with prostitutes in the private rooms. When investigating through and through, one of the waiters said he frequented their karaoke bar 6 times a week. He drives a 1992 white Nissan salon. He also has a wife and a son. A few months ago he was transferred to MASA in Naypyidaw and according to our sources working with him every time his phone rang, he was scared to death. Because he was never sure of when he would be fired for a certain mistake he might or might not make or due to a decision made by his boss, Major General Ye Myint. When investigating other whore houses like Asia Plaza and similar motels and hotels, it is reported that colonels visit these places in the afternoon and at night. When they visit these places, waiters and attendants are asked by these colonels to cover their motor vehicle plates due to their paranoia and so nobody knows they are there.
Young officers who have a major’s rank do frequent whore houses and night clubs and pick up prostitutes at night. The young officers frequent the night clubs such as Pioneer, BME and Club Europa. One incident at Club Pioneer was reported as a captain arrived at Club Pioneer around 11p.m. and he saw a truck with a military license number plate parked in front of Club Pioneer and he called the parking attendant at once to cover the license number plate of his car and yelled, “ Hey! There’s an army truck. Cover my car license number plate.” And then the captain, BurmaWatchUSA’s reporter reports, went up Club Pioneer and drank and started to dance until the prostitutes came and picked up one of his favorite regulars.
When we investigated the whore house called “Asia Plaza”, many colonels and majors were encountered by one of our reporters. One of the security guards working at the whore house Asia Plaza is a corporal working for Rangoon Division. He works at the whore house at night as a security guard and works at Rangoon Division and has to report to Colonel Tint San during the day. The corporal said many colonels and majors come to Asia Plaza to pick up whores and go up to the Asia Plaza Hotel to spend the night. That is night life for colonels and majors in Burma.
