Well, UN’s efforts on Burma for the reconciliation between the military junta and the opposing pro-democracy forces seems to have become fruitful.

Junta’s Than Shwe said he was willing to see Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for dialogues if she ends her support for sanctions against his regime.

A spokesman for National League for Democracy (NLD) said, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi would consider the offer “in a positive light”.

It is good news for all, despite (1) Junta is still provoking house to house manhunts, now extending to day and night, and (2) the condition for dialogue sounds to be the introduction of some trick or to exchange with some thing, if not blackmail.

Nevertheless, poor people of Burma can now glimpse the land of hope in the far distant, if it is not an illusion. Illusion? Is Than Shwe an illusionist? Everyone on the streets of Burma are hoping he is not. But, with reference to the junta’s past records, they seemed to be “superior and professional illusionists” than David Copperfield.

People don’t want to have any illusions about, especially when it comes to the matter of the Nation’s future. All parties involve in the dialogue must consider for the country in the first place, and the dialogues should hold in the presence of the UN special representatives.

We look forward to all delegates who will be participating in the dialogues to always remember this:- “Somewhere in our poor country at any given time, at least one or more armed skirmishes, if not a battle, whether big or small, major or minor is going on since the independence from Britain in 1948. And THIS MUST BE STOPPED”.

And one more thing. China and Russia, they coddle dictatorship. It’s a no-brainer for their rejection to any idea of punitive measures by the UN on their beloved junta. They said they still regarded the crisis in Burma as an internal matter. This attitude is equal to “someone who did not alert to the police or do anything even though visually witnessing the neighbour killing own children in the house next to him”.

We believe that, for those who have this kind of attitude certainly will have their own ideas on the game. Let them carry on with their own ideas. We don’t want to blunt their dreams and plans, and they do not deserve any explaination about Burma in the UN.

But, we all must not ignore that the present-day imperialism is not only through the use of weapons, but shows up discreetly in another form of colonization through the “mind”, “culture”, “economy” and “encroaching into the territory”. Becareful delegates. We heard from unconfirmed sources that more than half of the population in upper Burma are not Burmese, but from somewhere nearby.

In conclusion, let me enliven General Aung San’s speech last sixty years ago :- “Unless you all can bend to the full and do it (work) with utmost force and energy, the country would become a whorehouse”.

Oh! Another one more thing. People on the streets of Burma don’t want the junta’s seven steps road map to democracy. All must sit down together and draw a sincere road map accepted by all ordinary people of Burma, in the presence of UN representatives.
