A Solidarity vigil will be held this Friday night, in support of Burma’s people, who are unable to exercise their fundamental rights in their country, and to express our opposition towards the Burma military junta’s bloody crackdown on protestors.

There are now reports filing in, that hundreds have been killed and some 6,000 people are being held at various detention facilities. Thousands of monks have been forcibly defrocked and are believed to be on their way to the military junta’s deadly labour camps.

The vigil is an initiative of civil society organisations, including Amnesty International Malaysia, Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM), Civil Rights Committee of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH-CRC)and Youth For Change (Y4C).

Since when Burma has become our Malaysian problem. I think we have enough problems of our own and we should not interfere with others’ internal affair. We have been too kind all these while and is currently housing so many Burmese people here in Malaysia.Just take a look at the statistic how many crimes have been committed by illegal immigrants? Only two days ago a Burmese killer stabbed a Chinese citizen at a Cheras hotel 4 times. The hotel worker saw him before he fled through the window and threatened to kill the worker as well if he stopped him. This is just one example, there are a lot more. The crime rate involving illegal immigrants is just too high and we should really take a stand right now. To be kind to illegal immigrants is to be cruel to ourselves. The police can no longer protect us, Malaysian would have to protect ourselves. Thus we should not allow any demonstration in Malaysia for a Burmese course. We can’t even have our own legitimate assembly here and why should permit be issued for a Burmese demonstration?
