Can tourists be of use ?

Any tourists who are genuinely concerned for the people of Burma, and are sufficiently intrepid, can make themselves useful during the present crisis.
They should be present as spectators at the public demonstrations.

Their presence can make the authorities more hesitant to use violence on the streets.

Where this fails, they will be first-hand witnesses for the free world of the excesses of the regime.

One or two western bystanders who fall victim to the violence will cause far more outrage amongst western public opinion than any number of Burmese massacred.
It will grab front-page headlines.

Dear Cedric

Thank you for the excellent idea. Their presence is crucial, either western tourists or journalists – their mere physical presence could make the authorities more hesitant to use violence. We should flood Burma with as many tourists as possible. If you could, please help. We are already running out of time.
