Date:  September 19 2007

Subject: Urgent appeal to the world on latest developments in Burma/ Myanmar

An unprecedented event in Myanmar modern day’s history took place yesterday.  Burmese monks excommunicated the ruling military government in protest of the arrests and torture of the peaceful protest marchers monks in Pakoku in central Burma two weeks ago. The monks were protesting against price hikes and economic chaos in the country.

Yesterday, officials fired tear gas bombs into the demonstrating monks in Sittway, Burma’s western state capitol.  This is the beginning of the cruel and harsh response from the military government towards its suffering citizens.  Every sign is now leading to the repeat of 1988 Democracy uprising in which military government shot dead thousands of monks, students and young Burmese. We want to stop this from happening and we desperately need the help from the world community and the United Nation organization.

By this statement we appeal to Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, to send a special delegation group to examine the developments in our country immediately.

We also appeal to the world leaders, especially US, UK, France, Germay, Japan and Australia, to intervene diplomatically and stop the blood shed that is going to take place in the next few days in Burma.  This is most urgent and we do hope the world and UN would act right away in the name of Democracy and Human Rights.
