London Commemorates 8888 Anniversary

On 08.08.2007, the 19th Anniversary of 8888 People Power Uprising in Burma, Burmese democracy loving expatriates commemorated the Anniversary in London, UK.
About 160 attendees from the Burmese Democratic Community, Christian Solidarity Worldwide, The Burma Campaign U.K, and Friends Of Burma gathered at the Berkeley Squire at 12.30 Pm and marched towards the Burmese Embassy, in the form of 8888 movement in Burma 19 years ago, with groups of Monks, students, women groups and workers. They staged a protest in front of Burmese Military Regime’s Embassy.
The anniversary demonstration started with paying respect to the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives during 8888 uprising, and laid flower banquet for them. Then Sasana Ramsi Sayadaw U Uttara, prayed & chanted for them. The statements from different opposition parties & organisations were read out & guest speakers from The Burma Campaign U.K, and Christian Solidarity Worldwide spoke out their support.
The Burmese Junta embassy closes and shut its doors on the demonstrators, but some embassy staff from the roof-top of embassy building secretly monitors the demonstration.
Lunch was offered by the Burmese Muslim Association (B.M.A) at the Hyde Park and a discussion about the current political situation in Burma and other proceedings were carried out at the Speakers corner, Hyde Park until 4.30 Pm.
