NEW DELHI COMMEMORATES 8888 DAY

New Delhi 7 August 2007: Over 300 protesters mostly women and children from different communities from Burma hold a mass rally from Jantar Mantar to Parliament street shouting and holding anti-military slogans, placards and each organization’’s flag including fighting peacock flag and to commemorate the 19th anniversary of 8888 Uprising. All Burmese Institutions and Offices of different organizations were closed to remember befallen comrades and all students joined the demonstration.


The demonstrators also submitted the statement of the day to the Indian government and Burmese embassy in New Delhi. According to the statement the Burmese pro-democracy groups in India solemnly salute the befallen comrades and pledge to fight till their objectives are achieved. The statement also urge the UN Secretary General, UN Security members, the USA, the European Union, ASEAN, China and India to increase effort to help realizing of national reconciliation and democratization in Burma by endorsing the proposals of Burmese parliamentarians.


After marching from Jantar Mantar to Parliament Street making traffic jam for half an hour for one round the demonstration hold a gathering beside the road and saluting the befallen comrades, shouting slogans, singing patriotic songs and short speech from different organizations and MPs like Dr Tint Swe (MP), U Tha Noe (MP), U Ong Maung (NLD/LA), Ko Letlam (Kuki Peoples Congress), Daw Molly (WLB), Sanga (CSU), Brasain (KNO), Dr Zaw Win Aung (FTUB) and others.


Today’s demonstration has the most participants in 2007 and the Burmese people in India pledge to fight the barbaric regime to achieve the objectives of 8888 heroes and heroines who sacrified their lives for our tomorrow.
