Some people expressed their views and remarks when they voted for the most interesting Politician 2006 Burma. Some just voted without any comments.

From voters’ statements of their opinions, a few interesting quotes are compiled below.

Ko Min Ko Naing

¨       I believe Ko Min Ko Naing is only best person to choice Political Personality of the year 2006 for Burma. Because he was worked very hardly for the Nation since he release from jail

¨       most impact, more effect on Burma politics, excellent  leadership , wise , brave heart and honest.

¨       After long term in prison, we hope he may be useless. But after his release he has drawn the international society’s attention on Burmese issue again.

¨       Because he had worked very hardly for nation.

¨       I always admire him as politician rather than student leader.

Ko Mya Aye (and Ko Jimmy)

¨       Both led a wide campaign for a sign petition to release all political prisoners. That campaign was a very amazing success  after the 8888 People Uprising in 1988. In spite of the SPDC junta’s lawless authority to its own people, they did it very strategically, leading a possible path to democracy now and forever.

¨       He is more organized and right direction to give truth message to the people of Burma where Burmese people didn’t know how to show their democracy movement peacefully.

¨       I am very exciting of their works for people.  Now, many students from inside who are studying at different university join hands with 88 GSG and work together for democracy movements and to free political prisoners.  I appreciate and admired them that they are fighting for truth.

¨       In 2006, I am very excited on them because they encouraged me to participate fighting for truth. I liked his speeches with media…..they reflect really the needs of our people.

¨       Ko Mya Aye and 88 GSG (inside Burma) whom I respected, people from inside supported them and join with them as their voice of truth.

88 generation student leaders

¨       SPDC fears them most and they can succeed in bringing Burma to democracy

¨       Their White Expressions campaign and petition show that new avenues for change and hope still exist within Burma; their support for Min Ko Naing and other prisoners was immediate and dynamic.

¨       They have deserved for their selfless sacrifice.

¨       The most interesting political group 2006 for Burma

¨       They are leading towards democracy movement in Burma and stimulate and try to develop human rights behind bars most of their lives. Their have perseverance, tolerance, and true democracy spirits.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

¨       I have no words to give my reason because everybody, inside and outside Burma, who is on democracy side or other side, really knows who the greatest politician for Burma is.

¨       Respected by majority of the people of Burma also of world. Sixty thousand signatures can not be wrong. Than Shwe still afraid of Daw’s shadow at UN.

¨       Aung San Suu Kyi demonstrates balance. Give example of ways to be free. Surround heart with good thought. Know real. Give hope for tomorrow to others. Surround self with wise generous souls. Hold kalyanamitta precious. Never forget Aung San Suu Kyi light for all to see in present growing darkness.

¨       She has the real leadership mind

¨       Perseverance under detention. Focus for UN debate on Myanmar. Continued to attract interest of world community in Burma democracy.

¨       So far so good and no one can replace her

Dr. Cynthia Maung

¨       She has been doing tremendous work silently in the border areas for the refugees, the sick and the women. She is a silent crusader and deserves this recognition.

¨       Although not a politician in the direct sense of the word, but a very special person, almost too modest for this world, but still one to watch….

¨       She tries her best for everyone.

¨       Dr. Cynthia Maung is Mother Teresa for the Burmese.

U Win Tin

¨       U Win Tin remains steadfast in his struggle from behind bars.  His impact on Burma’s politics?  The fact that the junta does not dare to release him speaks for itself

¨       76 year old journalist vice-chair of Myanmar’s Writer’s Association is WAN Golden Pen of Freedom laureate, a founder of the National League for Democracy, and a 17 years prisoner at Insein.

John Bolton

¨       He pushed with courage, determination, bravely the political, economic and social problems of Burma for discussion in the UN Security Council, the world’s highest council which can take punitive action on Burma.

¨       He is instrumental in getting Burmese affair on UNSC agenda.

Nan Charm Tong

¨       It’s pretty impressive that she did what she did at her age, isn’t it? What do you think?

¨       She is role model for ethnic youth and women.

Ma Su Su Nway

¨       Released from prison, give moral support to people very often, got award from Canada.

¨       Ma Su Su New is a  brave woman, an iron lady.

Sr. Gen Than Shwe

¨       Sr. Gen. Than Shwe exhibits all traits of a politician: exploiting, back stabbing, sabotaging, character assassinating, bribe taking, manipulating and practising nepotism and cronyism.

¨       I think Than Shwe the Evil deserves because he is still successful with his criminal policies and challenging the International community’s demand to release Aung Sun Suu Kyi.

Sao Yordserk

¨       He is a brave, wise, noble and very esteemed leader of Shan State Army.  He commands respect because he never gives up and is fully committed to his people. He is a formidable opponent and only a fool will go against him.

¨       He is a very brave and honourable leader of the SSA, and we love him.

¨       A true Shan patriot and freedom fighter, defending Shan people against the Burma army - and sticking to his principles, without getting hoodwinked by the junta and their stupid National Convention.

U Maung Maung (NCUB)

¨       His work can be measured by the action of ILO and international institutions towards Burma. He is scared and paranoid by the SPDC as a dangerous politician (terrorist).
