Today is a shocking and awakening day for JORDBUR, the dreamer.

JORDBUR came from humble beginnings and although he is no one he likes to think himself as socially mobile, he like to talk about things those made him feel big and important: world class education, professional and advance degrees, science and technology, civilization, benchmarking of universities, direct and derivative investments, macro economic policies, identity crisis, culture, values, religion, etc..

He will talk whatever topic that will make him feel like a giant while still being a pygmy. He talks about Harvard at least once a day, MIT about twice a week and UC Berkeley before and after meals although he never studied there. He had been a dreamer, sleeping in his cocoon, and he was thinking his countrymen are doing good after witnessing some friends who are doing well: young post doctorates in some big name universities, some corporate warriors climbing up the career pyramid, practising professionals specialists in cutting edge fields and he was dreaming Burma will become next Asian tiger economy one day by people like his mates.

But fate was cruel for poor JORDBUR. Feeling scared watching a thriller movie, he was tossing the remote control and reality bites him. He saw some familiar scenes on TV, a program in Western media about Burma, Burmese, Daw Aung San Su Kyi, miseries, remote border areas and ethnic minorities.

He saw the crowded buses, suffering people, dirty streets, arrogant armed men and officials, Shwedagon pagoda, Daw Aung San Su Kyi and some of his brothers in arms waging a bloody war with military regime and all plights of Burma suddenly awaken Burma man hiding inside him.

Burma is still a country in crisis, lagged behind its neighbours, oppressed by own armed forces, lack of rule of law, exploited by some local and foreign business men, manipulated by politicians, unequal and unfair in distribution of opportunities, miserable Burmese and their tribal brethrens and enjoying elites, censor-savvy media, unresponsive officials, lack of human rights and respect for a human lives and endless miseries. JORDBUR may not be able to sleep and have good dreams again.
