The Great Natural Light of Freedom
Sep 26th, 2006
It was with appreciation and optimism that I welcomed the UNSC’s decision to address Burma. Here at last is the first step we’ve been waiting for.
We have waited such a long time for this moment that it may seem to some of us as unbelievable. Some of us have got used to being cynical or mistrusting and some of us have got into the habit of not believing in positive news because we had been hoodwinked or mislead so many times by the regime.
Many cynics will find all kinds of loopholes and problems with regard to the news, but I prefer to be optimistic. Many of us are used to being pessimistic through no fault of our own, but things will only get better if we give ourselves a chance to be happy.
Yes, I agree 18 years is an awfully long time for Burma to be ruled by the terrible military regime, and only God/Allah/Buddha knows why we have to suffer them for so long, but changes are happening now and since we’ve already endured so much suffering over the years; for once, this is most welcome news. We have all experienced so many atrocities and some of us still are; that surely now things can only get better.
Any person who had been through horrendous sufferings because of the dreaded SPDC has only two choices; to look for the golden light at the end of the tunnel, or give up hope altogether. It is our human instinct.
The state of Burma in every aspect of life went downhill ever since she became a country ruled by the military. The situation in Burma worsened over the years, thanks to the sadistic King of Hell, Than Shwe and his repugnant stooges. The citizens of Burma have regressed through fear and suppression by the regime. Burma used to be one of the main rice producing countries in the world and now people have barely enough rice to eat. People are dying because of diseases such as HIV and AIDS, imprisonment, torture, slavery and extra-judicial killing. The Burmese Army has been creating countless problems such as raping women and children of ethnic people, torturing and killing. Many ethnic people of Burma are, at this moment still having to suffer day and night without any relief. They have done nothing wrong except to live, and the SPDC are determined to wipe them out. The SPDC has committed every inhumane crime against them and this is something the world community should not ignore. The SPDC’s war against the ethnic people is an extremely serious issue which should definitely be addressed.
Regrettably, for the SPDC, they have managed to commit every war crime against humanity including genocide against ethnic people and this is a matter that definitely needs to be heard.
Because the SPDC fear retribution, they will try to manipulate every situation for their survival. We need to keep a constant watch on their every move and question their every word.
However, with regard to the UNSC, I would like to think that this is the beginning of something positive for the citizens of Burma, and every effort we’ve made to help Burma and her civilians has brought us to this point in time. Each and every one of us, when we contribute to Burma’s wellbeing and security, we should know that it matters and we may not notice a big difference at first, but positive changes were and are occurring little by little. It is like throwing a pebble into a pond, the pebble may be small, but when thrown into the pond, the ripples grow as big as the pond.
To me, it seems the dark clouds over Burma are beginning to disperse at last. Naturally, there may be a few hiccups, but never-the-less let us look at it as a positive step towards freedom from oppression and true democracy.
“My thoughts on hearing the UNSC’s decision to discuss Burma”
Burma has been in the dark for so long now,
It has been like the eclipse of the sun
During the full eclipse darkness descends,
As the moon gradually obscures the disc of the sun
Until finally the light is completely blocked out
Then within a space of time the light returns
And so it is that there are
Points in time when there is darkness and
Then the light shines forth like a new dawn. However, changes are happening,
And clouds are clearing at long last
We must be strong,
Rock-like in our knowing
We must not give up hope
We must keep calm
And keep each other calm
And cultivate stillness within.Where there is darkness
Your light will shine forth
Do not get involved with darkness
Be calm, be joyful
And most of all
Radiate love
For all is happening as it should
In the dance of the Universe.Do not despair,
Do not give up hope,
For soon there will come a time
When we will all bathe in
The great natural light of Freedom.
