For the opposition

              Burma authorities have been rebuilding gallows in prisons throughout the country, giving rise to speculations that the method of executions by hanging is to be reintroduced. It has been suspended since 1983. (DVB)

           Than Shwe’s deputy, Maung Aye, has effectively taken over the role of running Burma these days_ his mug is everywhere in the Burma media. But a Southeast Asian diplomat says Than Shwe is only giving him enough rope to hang himself.

Regarding Na-ta-la

Does the word, Natala (villages) stand for an abbreviation? Na -Ta – La? If so, what does it stand for? Does it mean: “Nair-myay Toh-tet-yay Loak-ngan,” perhaps? (Regional Progress Works)  or, does it mean

Elections in Burma

Burmese Generals held an election in 1990, the result of which they shamelessly refused to recognize. Now, they are holding a rubber-stamp “National Convention” to draw up a constitution in which military’s authority over civilian affairs will permanently be enshrined. And they also have plans to hold faked referendums and rigged elections.
